- Take the Guess Road exit (Exit 175) and turn south onto Guess Road (following the sign toward the NC School of Science and Math).
- Take Guess Road to Broad Street and turn right onto Broad.
- Staying on Broad, cross Club Boulevard (at the NC School of Science and Math) and continue on Broad Street to Markham Avenue (the second stoplight past Club).
- Turn right onto Markham.
- Go to the next stoplight and turn left onto 9th Street.
- Take I-40 west to the Durham Freeway.
- Continue into town on the Durham Freeway and take exit 14 at Swift Avenue.
- At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Swift Avenue.
- Go to the first stoplight (corner of Broad and Main) and turn left onto Main Street.
- Go to the next light and turn right onto 9th Street.
- Take Duke Street south to Club Boulevard. (Note: Duke heading south becomes Gregson after you cross I-85 and come up beside Northgate Mall; thus, you'll end up at the corner of Gregson and Club.)
- Turn right (west) onto Club and continue past Northgate Mall to Broad Street (at the NC School of Science and Math).
- Turn left onto Broad Street.
- Go to the second stoplight and turn right onto Markham Avenue.
- Go to the next stoplight and turn left onto 9th Street.
- Take Hope Valley Road (751) north to Cornwallis Road.
- Turn left on Cornwallis Road.
- Go to the first stoplight and turn right onto Chapel Hill Road.
- Go to the first light and turn left onto Anderson Street.
- Take Anderson Street past Duke Gardens to Erwin Road.
- Turn right onto Erwin Road and follow it down the hill and around a curve to the left.
- As you come under a railroad bridge and up a hill, you'll see a stoplight ahead at the intersection of Erwin and Main. Go straight through that stoplight. Erwin becomes Ninth Street when it crosses Main.
- Take 15-501 Bypass north to 147 South (Durham Freeway) at exit 108-B.
- From the Freeway, take exit 14 onto Swift Avenue.
- At the end of the exit ramp, turn left (north) onto Swift Avenue.
- Go to the second stoplight (corner of Broad and Main) and turn left onto Main Street.
- Go to the next light and turn right onto 9th Street.
Parking for the 9th Street shopping district is convenient and free. You can park along both sides of 9th Street and Perry Street, or in a free lot across from the stores in the 700 block of 9th Street. In addition, many stores provide free parking for their patrons in designated lots.
9th Street is located two blocks west of Duke University’s East Campus. The shopping district is bounded by Broad Street (east), Main Street (south), 9th Street (west), and Knox Street (north), with the exception of Sam’s Quik Shop, located across Main where 9th Street turns into Erwin Road.
